Speciality Master 2 Computer Science Option Graphics, Vision, Robotics Course ID GINF538A ECTS 3 Course Objectives
The objective of this course is to introduce the field of Computer Assisted Medical Interventions (Cami) through a technical point of view. This includes among others
- an introduction to clinical issues
- state of the arts of the methods used to process and analyze medical images
- multi-modality images fusion
- surgical procedure planning and simulation, and
- assisted surgery.
The purpose of Cami is to assist the physician or surgeon in the successful execution of diagnostic or therapeutic gestures by minimizing invasiveness while improving accuracy. This general objective involves the quantitative processing of multi-modal patient data and medical knowledge, the fusion of all those information, the planning of an optimal strategy for diagnosis and therapy and the ability to transfer safely and accurately this plan to the operative conditions. This last stage is performed through navigational or robotic assistance. Simulation may also assist the planning phase or the educational part of surgery. This general framework results in multi-disciplinary research, technological development, clinical evaluation and industrial dissemination.
This course is devided into 10 lecture sessions and 2 tutorial sessions. The tutorial will show you different steps of a typical computer assisted clinical application. A more detailed version of the lecture subjects can be found on the calendar.
Why Studying Medical Imaging, Simulation and Robotics in M2R
- To apply abstract mathematics physics and computer science skills learnt before
- To understand a research project from the design to its commercial realization and its use by clients
- To take advantage of a world-wide known research team
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of
- Mathematics (Linear systems, Fourier transform)
- Computer Science
- Image processing and analysis
although not mandatory makes understanding the course easier.
During the tutorial, no programming will be needed, apart from basic knowledge in the applied techniques (parameters, context, etc.).Course Grade
The grade will be made of 2 parts:
- One third (1/3) of the grade is the tutorial made by teams of 3, and orally presented(please plan 8 to 10 hours of home work for this tutorial).
- Two third (2/3) of the grade is given by a written exam
